Our numbers dropped a bit from yesterday but we still had a nice variety of birds, highlighted by an early-morning capture of a second-year female Kentucky Warbler (photo below). After more thoroughly checking our historical records (dating back to spring of 2000), this is indeed the first Kentucky Warbler banded at Chico Basin Ranch. Amazing to still be adding new species to our banding records here after more than 20 years! We went on to band 30 birds and had 1 recapture, representing 18 species in total:

Dusky Flycatcher - 1
House Wren - 2
Yellow Warbler - 6
Wilson's Warbler - 1
'Audubon's' Yellow-rumped Warbler - 2
Common Yellowthroat - 1
MacGillivray's Warbler - 2
Kentucky Warbler - 1
Lincoln's Sparrow - 1
Yellow-breasted Chat - 2
Swainson's Thrush - 4
'Gambel's' White-crowned Sparrow - 1
'Mountain' White-crowned Sparrow - 1
Green-tailed Towhee - 1
Brown-headed Cowbird - 1
Gray Catbird - 1
Northern Mockingbird - 1
Brown Thrasher - 1
Bullock's Oriole - 1 recapture from spring 2020

We are open 3 days per week (Friday - Sunday) through May 30th. We'll also be open Thurs May 20th. Chico Basin Ranch is once again open to the public and visitors are welcome at the banding station, click here for more details on visiting. We are opening nets at about 5:30am and continuing for 5 hours, depending on weather.
