Spring migration Is not over. This morning, In the thicket at the north end of Dixon reservoir, Larimer County’s famous migration hotspot, I tallied 9 Western Wood-Pewees and an Empidonax flycatcher. I believe that most of these were migrants. The “empid” was silent but based on white throat, relatively short primary extension and weak eye-ring,
I called it a “Traill’s” Flycatcher which could be Willow or Alder. The bird was very olive on the back suggesting either Eastern Willow or Alder. If anyone follows up with this bird and hears (or even better, records) vocalizations, please share. Photos are included here.
