Hey everyone.  I remember seeing some emails a couple months ago about a new wildlife pass starting May 1st. I tried to find it but I'm not seeing it. Does anyone have more info on this and where I can order one? I'm here birdwatching for the week and thought that might make it easier to go to different locations.

Thank you!

Hi Jared,
We are working on the summer issue of Colorado Birds that will include information on the new SWA Pass from Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW). Starting in 2020, CPW required anyone 18 and over to have either a hunting or fishing license to enter any of the 350+ State Wildlife Areas. This generated considerable feedback, particularly from Colorado's birding community including a letter from CFO President Nick Komar, resulting in the creation of the SWA Pass.

CPW has managed the SWAs for hunting and fishing primarily because these were the groups providing funding through licenses. It will be interesting to see how much revenue the new pass generates and what effect that has on CPW management in the future. For more information about the SWA Pass: https://cpw.state.co.us/aboutus/Pages/News-Release-Details.aspx?NewsID=7734

Good birding,
Peter

The passes you are referring to are for State Wildlife Areas, and can be purchased here, https://www.cpwshop.com/purchaseprivilege.page?_PageParam.displayCategoryID=251527462, or in a CPW office. State Parks can be entered with daily passes purchased at the park.

Unfortunately after I put on my age & residence status, the SWA pass does not appear as an option.

To find the SWA pass, change the drop down menu below the dark blue "Go" button to "Land & Trails".

Hope that helps,

I just purchased the new Wildlife Pass online, I had to contact CPW for instructions on how to do this. Here is what they sent to me:

Online, the pass can be located by selecting "Go Hunting & Fishing", then " Buy Habitat Stamp & Other Licenses", from there you must select "Land & Trails" located in the menu on the left hand side of your screen. I have included a screenshot so that you can see how it appears online."

When you put in your age, if you are a senior, it will automatically display the pass with the senior pricing.

Hope this helps!
