Hi all-
Certainly nothing rare but a nice suprise today was a female Hooded Merganser with three chicks today on the river in the Northern Wildlife area of South Platte Park. This species appears to be a bit of an unusual nester in Colorado, and apparently has not been known to nest in the park. Other species of note include several Common Mergansers still around (apparently they nested within the park last summer), Ospreys, Turkey Vultures, possible Broad-winged Hawk (distant photos that I have to check, could be "just" a Red-tail, a Raven, hundreds of swallows (Violet-Green the most common), Blue gray Gnatcatchers, Bullock's Oriole, Lark Sparrow, Vesper Sparrow, and Yellow Warblers.
