Red-eyed Vireo and American Redstart, Boulder

Hi everyone (again),

I'm just getting my fill of mostly well-known local rarities in these few days I'm back in town here before I leave again for SW Colorado, hence the flurry of postings. This morning I swung by the South Mesa Trailhead in Boulder County, just off the road that takes you to Eldorado Canyon. Joe Roller had told me about a possibly (or probably) nesting pair of Red-eyed Vireos near the parking lot a day or two ago. I heard one singing as soon as I stepped out of the car, but it then stopped and was silent for about half an hour. It finally resumed in that same general area, and I was able to get fairly good recordings of it.

In the process of recording it, I discovered a strapping, singing male American Redstart, moving through the boxelders. I got a recording of him too.

And while I have your attention, I should also mention that I easily refound Christian Nunes' Grace's Warbler 2 days ago (6/11/13) up along the Spring Brook Trail where it had been found and previously observed, as well as the Black and Eastern Phoebes at the 75th Street crossing of Boulder Creek.
