Explore the Feat of Migration
Sept. 12, 19 & 26, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m., Denver Museum of Nature & Science
Sept. 21, 8 - 10 a.m., field trip to Barr Lake Banding Station
Discover how, why and where birds migrate - and the challenges they face - during this
unique four-part course offered in partnership with DMNS. Experience an immersive
presentation in the planetarium, study specimens in the museum’s ornithology collections
and visit a banding station. Scientists from the museum and RMBO will discuss
the latest research on bird migration and how science leads to conservation.
Cost - $105, or $75 for RMBO and DMNS members


Delve into Grouse, Crows and Origins of Birds
All lectures 7 p.m., Denver Museum of Nature & Science, 2001 Colorado Blvd.

Oct. 3 - “Save the Last Dance” by Noppadol Paothong
Award-winning wildlife photographer Noppadol Paothong will share stories and images
of impressive, often bizarre courtship behaviors of grassland grouse from his new
book Save the Last Dance. Book sale, signing and reception to follow.

Oct. 22 - “Get to Know the Crow” by Dr. John Marzluff
Dr. John Marzluff, professor of wildlife science at the University of Washington, will
share funny, awe-inspiring and poignant stories about the intelligence and unexpected
abilities of crows. He is the author of Gifts of the Crow, and his research has been featured
on the television show Nature and in the documentary A Murder of Crows.

Nov. 20 - “Living Dinosaurs” by Dr. Julia Clarke
You often hear birds are living dinosaurs, but what does that mean? Where do birds
fit into the tree of life and what do we know about their deep history? Dr. Julia Clarke
will present research and discoveries scientists are using to paint a vibrant new picture
of dinosaurs and the origin of birds. Dr. Clarke is associate professor of vertebrate paleontology
at the University of Texas at Austin.

RMBO's Annual BBQ for the Birds

Bird Banding, bird walks & talks, kids' activities, music, Barr Lake & Old Stone House History Walk,
Live Raptors, Auctions, and Harvest-Themed Lunch will be featured. Renowned birder Greg Miller to
lead early morning bird walk, present "My Big Year" and conduct eBird workshop. Photographer
Noppadol Paothong to conduct workshop. Admission includes lunch and all activities.
