I found a dark (intermediate) Harlan's Red-tailed Hawk day before yesterday in Canon City. It was literally hiding in some trees as was evident when it was immediately escorted out of the area by the apparent resident pair of Red-tails when it flew up out of those trees. I got several photos of the bird that show the large amount of white on it's head, black and white mottled breast, barred and mottled remiges, black outer primaries, and pale gray-rufous type tail (one of the many types found on Harlan's). I looked for it again yesterday without success but in the past these hawks have stayed around though not always visible. I have posted the photos on my
Birds and Nature blog.
