Nate,
Mia culpa accepted, but rest assured the potential of a Yellow-crowned Night Heron just “hanging out” at Washington Park is actually entirely plausible. Years ago there was a Yellow-crowned at Duck Lake in City Park (with Black-crowneds at the rookery) and could occasionally be seen as out in the open as your student’s picture, so keep enjoying those walks around Washington Park, it is a nice place to spend some time, and you never know.
Also, please do keep posting here as everyone’s notes are fun to read…just remember your county references.
Good Birding,
Doug
Denver
PS – To follow up on Ted’s “Fallout” post, don’t know if y’all have noticed, but there are a huge number of Spizella sparrows of all flavors around today, just need to add a Field somewhere.
