Jeffco - Horned Grebe, Dead Bluebirds; Denver - Sloans Grebes, Osprey

It has been an interesting week in numerous ways.

I ran around Sloans Lake yesterday (4/18) and saw a raft of 79 Grebes (presumably Western, but I was too far away to tell and most were sleeping). Along the shoreline, a beautiful, lone Eared Grebe showed itself in fresh plumage. 5 Osprey were together on the island. 1 Mountain Bluebird and Barn Swallow as well. No Pelicans, only 4 Cormorants.

Today, students kept bringing dead bluebirds (both mountain and western) to my attention here in Jeffco at the base of N. Table Mtn. Combination of lack of insects and cold???

The reservoir at 44th and Table Mtn Parkway continued to offer up new birds:
1 Horned Grebe
2 W. Grebes
2 Ruddy Ducks
2 Wood Ducks
1 Gr. Scaup
Also the usual RT Hawk, C. Goldeneye, Amer. Wigeon, Gadwall, Mallards, Hooded and RB Mergansers.
Living Bluebirds (Western and Mountain) continued to survive on the far shore with the Robins.
