Hello, Birders.
No real rarities for Hannah Floyd and me this snowy Sunday afternoon, Apr. 17, at Boulder Reservoir, Boulder County, but the scene there was nevertheless spectacular--as it typically is during spring snowstorms. Most of the action was on the sprawling mudflats at the main north entrance. There we saw 1 semipalmated plover, 1 Baird sandpiper, 1 female peregrine falcon, 3 Say phoebes, 3 horned larks, 3 American pipits, 7 vesper sparrows, many swallows, and bluebirds galore. Our bluebird tally for the Rez, basically from the west entrance swinging around to the north entrance was 200+ mountain bluebirds and 40+ western bluebirds. The south shore of the lake wasn't quite as action-packed, but we did find Audubon warbler and myrtle warbler there.
Later in the afternoon, over at Greenlee Preserve, Boulder County,
four photogenic mountain bluebirds were doing their thing, and a male
peregrine falcon terrorized the
American avocets, wood ducks, and other denizens of Greenlee Reservoir. The long-present
gray catbird put in another appearance, and a couple
African collared-doves are hanging on.
