Hi all,
Today a handful of us ventured up to Prewitt Reservoir, looking particularly for shorebirds. We were not disappointed. Before I delve into that, however, I would like to note that, because we were so engrossed in the sandpipers, we had little time to scan open water for the previously reported jaegar and bird the cottonwoods for any migrants that may have been passing through. The shorebirds were generally concentrated on the western side, where we had Red-necked Phalaropes and Pectoral Sandpipers, as well as hundreds of peeps and Stilt Sandpipers. Collectively we had 16 shorebird species. An interesting Common Merganser was resting on the mudflats where the dam terminates.
Good Birding,
