Hello, Birders.

Walden Ponds, Boulder County, yesterday afternoon, Sat., Nov. 1, was a nice venue for pondering subspecies and subspecies-groups. Come to think of it, anywhere and anytime in Colorado are great for pondering subspecies and subspecies-groups; that's one of the wonderful things about living and birding here.

My companions and I saw this Gambel's White-crowned Sparrow in formative plumage:

We heard and glimpsed at least three Western Marsh Wrens. One of them was singing up a storm:

We also saw and heard the long-present Eastern White-breasted Nuthatch:

And, even though the calendar says November, we encountered insects in great variety and abundance. Reddish and orangish dragonflies were everywhere; where's Maynard when ya need 'im? Allard's ground-crickets and snowy tree-crickets were never out of earshot.
