Sorry for the double post, but I wanted to post our banding update from today as well! I’d also like to mention that today I was featured on the Western Bird Banding Association’s online virtual conference! They will be sharing links of my pre-recorded video where I talk about the net set-up at Chico and do some bird-banding demonstrations. If you’d like that link when it becomes available please reply to this. We caught two new species for the season: a Common Yellowthroat and Townsend’s Warbler. It was amazing seeing the variation between a hatch-year male and female Townsend’s! We had 59 captures today, bringing out cumulative fall total to 433.
Chico captures for 9/11:
Wilson’s Warbler 32
Dusky Flycatcher 2
Townsend’s Warbler 2
Common Yellowthroat 1
Chipping Sparrow 3
Warbling Vireo 2
Cassin’s Vireo 1
Lazuli Bunting 1
MacGillivray’s Warbler 1
Lincoln’s Sparrow 2
Swainson’s Thrush 1
Yellow-breasted Chat 1
Western Tanager 1
Plumbeous Vireo 1
Ovenbird 1
We are open 6 days a week at Chico Basin Ranch (closed Sunday), usually returning from the first net run around 7am and staying open until about 11:30am, weather permitting. Thank you for your continued support!
