Seven participants birded Denver City Park under overcast skies this morning.

5 Cattle Egrets in elegant breeding plumage where in the heronry in Ferril Lake along with Snowy Egrets and Black-crowned Night Herons. In the Duck Lake rookery, some Double-crested Cormorants were feeding young in the nest while others were building.

Chimney Swifts were overhead and four swallow species (Barn, Tree, Violet-green, and Northern Rough-winged) were zipping over Ferril Lake.

Duck numbers were down, but included a single Bufflehead, 7 Blue-winged Teal, and a female Common Merganser.

Other highlights included a Spotted Sandpiper, Red-tailed and Swainson's Hawk, 1 Cooper's Hawks, and a group of Yellow-rumped Warblers including both Myrthle and Audubon's.
