Hi all:
Okay, I'm back from traveling. The WT is not only not answering the phone, it isn't "home" when I try to login remotely using the system management tools. The last time that this happened, the GFCI circuit-breaker on the outside powerline that the WT is plugged into was tripped. Could be that has happened again, or the no-pickup could be something else. If the GFCI is tripped, it has now happened often enough that we should think about what to do about it, as happening twice means that it will keep happening. The WT alone should not trip the GFCI, it may be that the circuit is getting tripped by something plugged in by the rangers. I can tell when it happened, at least coarsely, from the phone-call log, once it is back up. Last time it was Sunday afternoon.
If there's someone in the area, could you look to see if the WT has power? The green light next to the power switch should come on if the AC line power is good.
Power-up normal light sequence is:
Front-panel toggle-switch on, a half-second or so later the green light next to the toggle switch should turn on. Some few seconds later the green light above the toggle switch should turn on. This 2nd light is the "computer is properly booted" light.
Then, the green light up by the antenna should start flashing. This is the radio-signal-being-received-from-the-anemometer signal.
If the system doen not have power, go poke the GFCI reset button on the AC power outlet (on the north side of the building, outside) please.
If the system does have power and is still not answering, please cycle the power and then see if it starts to pick up.
Sorry about the unreliability.
Steve Cahill

Subject: windtalker
There appear to be two things amiss with getting windtalker info:
- 1) The anemometer isn't spinning again (even in a 20mph wind);
- 2) Calls are not being picked up.
The first is a mechanical problem, the second is electrical (power, reset, off-line). If you've subscribed to
coastal...@googlegroups.com, you know that two weeks ago, we installed an all-new, marine-grade anemometer. That one didn't appear to work (wasn't spinning in low winds). So last weekend we replaced the 'spinny' parts (the upper cap holding the vane, and the lower cap holding the cups). That didn't fix it. Perhaps tomorrow some of us can take the pole down and replace the stationary part from the second anemometer kit. Cahill has volunteered to take the first kit back to the lab for testing. (Maybe it's a manufacturing defect.)
I have no info on item #2.
To air, is human, to fly, divine...
