Even though I am not a fan of LP, I must say this list
is quite impressive.Once Girish Karnard mentioned that before Sur Sagam he was
skeptical of LP's talent. During the making of Sur Sagam
he was amazed by their knowledge of classical music. IIRC
Rajan Mishra also told something similar.rk-
OTOH, Rajan Mishra (and Sajan Mishra) is hardly known
himself for knowledge of classical music or ability as singer.
The brothers are arch middle-class. Bhimsen Joshi used
to mention them as bright singers in the early 1980s but
nobody took him seriously then and after 20 years, people
who were lukewarm to the Mishras have been proved correct.
Of Laxmi-Pyare's classical songs mentioned in the list, some
are quite good ('tum gagan ke chandramaa ho'), some are
overpraised ('jeevan Dor' and 'jyot se jyot' range between
not-bad to quite-boring) and a big chunk is either unknown
to me or has been forgotten over the years.
But, yes, compared to what one expects from this talent-less
duo, the list is quite impressive and it is at least a small plus
mark in L-P's favour.- dn
One of the songs I love in that movie is "dhanyaa bhaaga seva ka avasara
paayaa..." I have absolutely no idea about the Raag etc..but it was very
nice to the ears. The Shankarabharam counterpart of this song
was..."dorakunaa ituvanti seva..". I should really commend the lyricist for
Sur Sangam to keep the lyrics so close to the Telugu original. (that too on
a classical tune)BTW...I had no idea that LP composed for Sur Sangam... LP has climbed a few
rungs on my appreciation scale now.-k

place where they rightfully belong, basement. Arrogant sods. Sample:-1. Their claim: During their struggling days, they were so talented
that Shankar Jaikishan use to stop rehearsing at studio the moment
they see the duo.2. Decades later, Nadeem Shravan, during post Ashique days accused
them of trying to steal their tunes by visiting their recording studio
earlier than their slotted time. HA HA.3. Their tete-e-tete with NS during NS's glory days will remind of
RMIM/RAMLI flame wars. LP: are u band master kab se music director
ban gaye. That band master was a jab at NS in a very poor taste since
during their struggling days NS use to give music in marriage parties
and functions. Not to be outdone, NS, who themselves were no saint
in throwing barbs, retorted as follows:- "next time when LP sings
ek do teen (tezaab), they should remember that ek is for NS, do is
for AnandMillind and teen is for RamLaxman".4. Subhash Ghai originally signed RDB for Ram Lakhan and then dropped
him and signed their regular LP. It was mentioned that LP did a good PR job
of themselves by brainwashing SG that unless he signs them, there is no
way the film will be a hit.I was gloating when their fall came in early 1990s.rk-
