Hello COTW,

Let's do another round! The stakes are high!

This argument refutes the key argument of the State Department in favor of KXL:

Because the renewable energy and battery storage industries are going to pass price parity with all fossil fuels very soon, making them uneconomic, every day of delay in getting huge amounts through coastal ports results in one day's shipments ultimately being blocked. This is how Keystone XL does indeed result in more carbon being added to the atmosphere (it stops the delay).

So let's try to force the Administration's hand by putting this argument front and center, in many different ways.

Regards,

Mark

Subject: Only more important now.

Don't know if you saw this - but we've been pressuring the EPA lately to intervene on the climate disaster Keystone XL pipeline. (Below is the email we originally sent on that.)

Here's why this just got way more important: the State Department just kicked the can down the road, past the midterm elections, on a final Keystone XL decision - which makes the EPA's voice all the more crucial.

Can you help us break 40,000 names before we deliver our letter to the EPA this week? We're almost there.

Thank you so much.

------------- ORIGINAL MESSAGE -------------

Silence, Gloria.

Pure radio silence.

Pure silence is what we've heard recently from our government's Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the arm of our federal government tasked with protecting us from environmental disaster, about the climate bomb called Keystone XL.

EPA officials can be heroes, if they choose to stand up to Big Oil's dirty tricks - JOIN US in creating public pressure on the EPA to do their job, protect our environment and stabilize our climate.

The State Department has given eight major federal agencies, including the EPA, a deadline of May 1st to officially comment on whether or not Keystone XL is in the national interest.

And why would the EPA have a stake in doing that?

Here's a good reason: Because the KXL is the linchpin to extracting the Tar Sands, an oil reserve which legendary NASA climate scientist James Hansen says would spell "game over for the climate." Either that's something the EPA should care about, or why the hell even have an EPA?

That's a question many will be asking if the EPA does nothing this month - let's make them so overwhelmingly aware of it that they have no choice but to speak out.

Send a message to the EPA and EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy, before it's too late.

Thanks for all you do to make this movement real.

Sincerely,

John Sellers, The Other 98%

And here is some ammunition for arguments:

Check out the animations on the right, especially the first one -- click on the image, then click on Play in the lower left corner, and watch the show, year by year. Note: these are actually conservative projections!
