Coalition SAUS/Parents, Staff & Community Members from campuses recently listed by AISD for potential closure met on Monday, January 16, 2017, at 7pm, at Central Market at West Gate.

After much discussion, the group agreed upon six major categories of action items to pursue.

1) The need for schools facing closure to present a united front--try to do a combo of united and campus highlights between us.

2) Doing a door-to-door census to keep track of pre-school aged kids and babies who plan to go to Dawson, Joslin, Brook, Ortega...and other campuses/schools on the potential closure list)---to meet again and determine how we start doing this in organized way?

3) Attending as many meetings as possible and speaking at as many of them as possible: with the school board, FABPAC, etc. Start by compiling list of relevant meetings, locations, dates and times. Get other campuses to follow Joslin's lead---Joslin sent out a flier and PTA voicemail today -- see Save Joslin facebook page for a centralized spot on those.

4) Getting the media involved, perhaps by starting with some of the local current events shows that would be interested in this story. Start by compiling a list of likely media contacts and---encouraging parents and community members to speak with contacts they know any opportunity they get.

5) Coming up with some creative action plans to draw attention to the human costs of closing (so we are not just a spreadsheet)---get as many parents as possible to speak at the Board meeting next Monday, Jan 23, about this?

6) Explore cheap ways to market the schools---come up with a unified project to do across the schools to have a HUGE outpouring of this type

Coalition SAUS next meeting
