Interactive Workshop: What is "Affordable Housing"?

FUREE's offices - 81 Willoughby St., Suite 701 in Downtown Brooklyn (between Bridge and Lawrence).

The term “affordable housing” is frequently used in policy demands, community conversations, and in the media. Yet the very words beg the question “affordable to whom”? 

This interactive workshop using popular education materials designed by CUP seeks to answer this and other questions, such as:

• How does the city and federal government define “affordable”?
• What programs produce “affordable” and “subsidized” housing?
• What is NYC’s “Median Family Income”? Why is it important and how does it compare to income levels where we live and work?
• What kinds of affordable housing exist in our neighborhoods in Brooklyn and what type of new housing should we be fighting for?
• What “affordable” housing is slated at the City Point project?

Join us on Feb. 7th to learn more about these critical issues and how we can ensure our neighborhoods stay affordable, livable and diverse.
