Wishing the entire CHY family a happy and blessed Ganesha Chaturthi!

Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the most popular and auspicious Hindu festivals. Ganesh Chaturthi is the birthday of Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles and is also considered to be the Lord of wisdom, buddhi.  Lord Ganesha is also referred to as Ganapati, Gajanana, Vinayaka, Vighneshawar and Pillaiyar. This auspicious day falls on the 4th day of the bright fortnight of Bhadrapada (August-September). This festival is observed throughout India, as well as by devoted Hindus in all parts of the world.

Ganesha Chaturthi lasts for 10 days ending on Anant Chaturdashi day. During Ganesha Chaturthi, Ganesha murtis are kept for the entire 10 days, starting on Bhadrapad Shudh Chaturthi to the Ananta Chaturdashi and worshipped with rituals and prayer.  On the 11th day, devotees carry the murtis in a procession where devotees sing and dance before immersing the murtis of Lord Ganesh into the waterm symbolizing the removal of all obstacles and misfortunes of his devotees and returning to Mount Kailash to his parents. This immersion of Lord Ganesh Statue is known as Ganesh Visarjan.  In true tradition, the murtis were constructed from the clay and mud that was found in the river bed where the immersion was to take place, thus symbolically representing a cyclical rejuvenation and recycling of the ecosystem as well as the religious significance.
