Dear CSPS:

Bobby Slovak and I have decided to hold the voters' forum on:

Tuesday 14 April
7:00 pm.
Lecture Hall of Consolidate High School

Some of you have offered to bring snacks and drinks & cups and napkins. Please reply to me again so I can be sure that we are covered.

Also, consider questions you want to ask of the candidates.

Thanks Maggie.  How about paper goods?  I have no idea how many people will come--probably not a crowd.

I'm  thinking we'll offer cookies, finger foods, very simple so no forks needed.  What are you thinking?

Dear Maggie:

I have become so forgetful that I would appreciate your help in just sketching out how a candidate forum might be organized.  This is what I recall, but tell me where I'm wrong:

we would open by introducing ourselves (Bobby S. and me) and our organizations.  We would then introduce each of the candidates.  Should we ask them to give a 1.5 minute statement explaining why they want to run?

We could have a slate of 4 questions from CSPS & CSEA and make sure they don't repeat each other.  We would ask our organizations' questions, then solicit questions from the audience in writing (to avoid oddballs).  I see this taking no more than 1 hour.

What am I missing or??

Many thanks,

Kate

1.5 minute opening and then time their answers otherwise. 2 or 3 minutes. NOt to long. It makes them think. Then the standard 4 questions...then questions from the audience.  Pass out notecards and have 2-3 people screen them for duplicates and themes. Then a closing 1.5 or 2 minute statement. Whatever you did at the front do at the back. Have them draw for position first and then reverse the order for the ending. You will need time cards to flash with 1 minute left, 30 seconds left and STOP!!!. You need a person to do this--hold the cards and watch a watch.Whoever moderates has got to be willing to cut them off with a smile.

Hope this helps. Other ideas?? Maggie
