Dear Friends:

The following describes in detail the proposed format for the College Station School Board Candidate Forum.  *Please reply with any responses or suggestions.*  Note:  There are 6 total candidates; 3 for Place 1 and 3 for Place 2.

What:  College Station School Board Candidate Forum
Where: A&M Consolidated High School Lecture Hall
When:  Tuesday 14 April 2009   7 - 8 p.m.
Sponsors: College Station Teachers' Education Association (CSEA), Coalition for the Support of Public Schools (CSPS), League of Women Voters (LWV)

--Assemble at 7 p.m.

--Brief introduction by Linda Parrish, Moderator.  She announces the three sponsoring organizations and their presidents who stand for recognition--CSEA ( Linda Bendiksen); CSPS (Kate Kelly); and LWV (Anne Raymond)--and reads a 1-sentence  description of each sponsor's mission.

--+/- 7:05  Parrish explains the system for question and answer: each candidate will give a 1.5 min. opening statement describing (1) his or her reason and qualifications for running for CS School Board; (2) the District's areas of greatest strength; and (3) the District's areas of greatest need.  (Order of speakers determined by drawing; this order will be reversed for closing statements.)

--+/- 7:20-8:00 p.m.  Opening statements are followed by questions proposed by sponsors (2 questions per sponsor) and then questions proposed by audience members.

--Parrish will read each of the sponsors' 6 questions; 2 mins. will be allowed per answer; a timer will hold up cards at 1.5 mins. indicating "30 SECONDS", and "STOP".

The remaining questions are taken up from the audience, screened, and passed to the moderator.  We will attempt to balance questions on various topics.

--+/-8:00 p.m. Candidates give closing statements of 1.5 mins. each (in reverse order from the opening statements) describing why they are the best candidate for the Board.

--The Forum's total time should fill about one to one and one-half hours.  Refreshments will be served at the close.
