Dear CSPS:  I am forwarding information about a voucher bill recently filed.

HB41 was introduced by state rep. Frank Corte, Jr., to provide funding for certain students to attend private schools.  He's quite bold about his intentions.  He refers candidly to the funding as "vouchers."  You can read it here:

The Texas Constitution says that public school money can be used only for free public schools.   Click on this link and see specifically:  Sec. 3 (a)-(e) and Sec. 5 (c).

This bill would force the local public school districts to pay the tuition directly to the private schools.  Some other features of the bill: Rewards students who are failing in public school with a private school education.  Once a voucher is awarded, it is good forever (until graduation or 21st birthday).  Legacy admissions for siblings.

This bill has been referred to the Committee on Public Education.  Now would be the time to call the committee members to comment on this bill in committee.  The Dems on the committee are:  Scott Hochberg, Alma Allen, Harold Dutton, Jr., Joe Farias and Dora Olivo.  The Republicans are:  Rob Eissler, Jimmie Don Aycock, Jim Jackson, Diane Patrick, Mark Shelton and Randy Weber.

You can look up their phone numbers at:
