Hello All,

The Board of Education voted yesterday to remove the "strengths and
weaknesses" language from the state science standards. The final
decision is not until March, but this is very promising news. There
were amendments to muddy the waters, but in broad strokes, this counts
as victory. Hurray!

The video will raise the hairs on the back of your neck: these are the
people deciding how our children will be educated...

Here is the TFN headline:

Breaking News: Big Win at the State Board, but...

Just hours ago, the State Board of Education (SBOE) voted 8-7 to
reject efforts by creationists to reinsert into draft curriculum
standards sweeping language -- "strengths and weaknesses" -- used to
undermine sound science education. But creationists on the board
managed to sneak through other changes that complicate important parts
of the standards.

Happy Friday,
Lisa

Thanks for this Lisa. We should all note that Dr. McLeroy who
**represents us** on the State Board of Education, introduced the new
language to "sneak through other changes" that could also be used to
undermine the teaching of evolution. We need to begin looking around
to find someone to run for McLeroy's seat when it becomes vacant in
(I think) 2010...
