Councilman
Baraka is addressing crime as a public health
issue in Newark’s South Ward. In his holistic
approach, he has launched a literacy campaign
entitled, “South Ward Reads” to
impact the education of students in the ward
and help prevent acts of crime. Through this campaign,
the Councilman is asking all children to
commit to reading a minimum of one hour each
week. The Summer Reading Competition is a
component of South Ward Reads.
