STOP SHOOTIN' LAUNCHES SUMMER YOUTH ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAM

NEWARK, N.J. -- (www.stopshootininc.org) -Stop Shootin' Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to ending senseless gun violence in urban communities' will host its 2nd annual "Summer Youth Entrepreneurship Program" this summer.

The Summer Youth Entrepreneurship  Program (YEP) is a community based summer program designed to provide young people with an opportunity to learn how to develop a business idea and possibly turn it into a successful business venture. YEP targets in-school youth between the ages of 14-19 who live in underserved communities in Newark, NJ. The six-week teaching process will culminate in the participants' creation of full business plans and delivery of 5-minute oral presentations to an executive judging panel during a one day business plan competition. Three cash prizes ($500, $300, $200) will be given to participants for the best business plans.

"My participation in last year's Youth Entrepreneurship Program was a great experience", remarked Tayzia Treadwell, competition 3rd place winner last year. "The program and competition allowed us to get firsthand knowledge about starting a business and provided us with the opportunity to actually present and try to sell our business idea. I appreciate Stop Shootin' Inc. and all the knowledge I gained last summer. I will carry that knowledge with me for the rest of my life."

YEP supplements an award-winning curriculum created by the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) (Entrepreneurship - How to Start and Operate a Small Business by Steve Mariotti) with other supplementary materials.

"In today's highly competitive global economy, we're reminded of the importance of education and having the skills to create opportunities for ourselves to move forward. Our passion for enabling young people to succeed through entrepreneurship education is a testament to the American dream that if you work hard and believe in your ideas, you can succeed in life," said Yusef Ismail, Co-Founder, Executive Director of Stop Shootin' Inc.

The YEP Program was made possible by a generous donation by The Prudential Foundation. Other sponsors include The Victoria Foundation, Mayor Cory Booker and United Way of Essex & West Hudson. For further information, please visit the Stop Shootin' website at www.stopshootininc.org.
