You have been an advocate for improved public transit in our community and your support of the Milwaukee Streetcar project has helped move the project forward through the City approval process. Thank you for your past support.
The project is at another important juncture. Tonight, a public hearing will be held on the Environmental Assessment document. This is a procedural step that is required by the FTA to move forward. You have likely already received a postcard notice of the meeting and may also have received an email reminder from the project or an email from the Mayor inviting you to attend and speak.
We need your help. Please consider attending and speaking at the meeting. Although all comments, verbal or submitted in writing via mail or email are considered equally, we all know that public opinion is often gauged by who speaks out at a public meeting, particularly by the media. Representatives from the Federal Transportation Administration will also be in attendance tonight and the City has submitted its application for TIGRE 3 funding for the route extensions (from the Intermodal station north up 4th Street/Juneau, and from Ogden north to Royall Place). And although the hearing is for comments on the environmental assessment document, a strong show of support for the streetcar may demonstrate the leadership of this community is serious about building a better transit system.
The hearing is scheduled as follows:
Wednesday, November 16, 2011
Frontier Airlines Center, 400 W. Wisconsin Avenue, Room 101, Milwaukee
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., followed by a brief presentation at 6 p.m. Public testimony will be permitted and those wishing to speak will be assigned a number in first-come, first-served order. Speakers will be limited to 3 minutes each.
