Dear Colleagues,

Happy Holidays! Chinese New Year (the Year of Ox) is approaching and
we are preparing for the annual COAA SCC party again. The COAA SCC
Executive Committee (EC) plans to have the Chinese New Year Party on
Saturday, January 31 from 11:30am to 2:30pm at Zen Buffet Restaurant
(5449 N. Rosemead Blvd., San Gabriel, CA 91776, 626-285-9595). The
menu is also accessible online. The COAA SCC will pay for drinks,
tips and tax for this activity. We will collect $12 for members, $15
for non-members, and $7 for Children (10 years old and younger)
Parking is available around the restaurant. Please mark your calendar
to attend the party.

We plan to invite 1-2 keynote speakers in this activity. You are
welcome to recommend speakers. We will collect the number of
attendance in the middle of January 2009. To facilitate people to
know each other, we encourage you to provide your information (such as
school where degree was awarded, birth places, your picture, etc) to
the COAA SCC EC members in your institution for group introduction.
If there is no EC member in your institution, please provide your
information to Hengchun Ye at hy...@exchange.calstatela.edu. You are
also welcome to prepare one slide about 1-2 minutes to introduce
yourself. As usual, we will have Karaoke afterwards. Should you
have any suggestions, please let the COAA SCC EC members know. Their
email addresses are listed in (http://groups.google.com/group/coaascc/
web/executive-committee-of-coaa-southern-california-chapter).

The COAA SCC EC will have an election soon. We will elect three new
EC members this time to replace retiring EC members. Only COAA SCC
members are eligible to vote. Please register to be a COAA member by
sending the registration to Ms. Qing Yue (air...@ucla.edu).

In 2008, we conducted campaign for the Sichuan earthquake donation,
provided training to the Chinese meteorological delegation, and
organized one workshop at the UCI. Thank you very much for your
support. The COAA SCC EC will organize more activities in the coming
year and look forward to your participation and help.

Cheers,

Yongkang Xue
Chair, COAA SCC EC
