COAA-SCC 2008 Summer Workshop and Picnic

The Southern California Chapter of the Chinese-American Oceanic and
Atmospheric Association (COAA-SCC) will organize a summer Workshop/BBQ
on Aug. 23, 2008. The Workshop/BBQ will be held 11:0am-3:00pm at the
University of California, Irvine. The purpose of the event is to
provide an opportunity for Southern California scientists to know and
net work with each other by sharing their recent work in an informal
and relaxed Southern California manner.

Workshop (11am-12pm): The workshop will take place at UC Irvine’s
Department of Earth System Science (Croul Hall, Room #3101; see map
below). The theme of the Workshop is Climate Change and Implications.
The theme is selected to reflect recent trends in atmospheric and
oceanic research and to stimulate discussions among participants.
Presentations will be in both oral and poster formats. Participants
should submit the presentation title to Jin-Yi Yu (jy...@uci.edu) or
Xiaochun Wang (xi...@pacific.jpl.nasa.gov) by August 15, 2008.

Picnic (12pm-3pm): A BBQ picnic will take place after the workshop at
the Lower Pool Area of the University Hill at UC Irvine (a 10-minute
walk from the Earth System Science Department, see the map for
location). Food and beverage will be provided by the COAA-SCC.
Participants are welcome to bring their favorite dishes to share. A
swimming pool is available in the location.

Parking: The COAA-SCC will provide 2-hour parking permits for the
workshop participants. Please park your car in Lot 16 and obtain the
parking permit from the COAA-SCC personnel.

Cost: To cover the food cost for the picnic, we recommend the
participants to contribute $5/per individual or $10/per family for
members and $10/per individual or $20/per family for non-members.
