Territorial house salsa is my favorite salsa, but
recently I've noticed that both King Soopers and
Safeway have stopped carrying it. WTF happened to
Territorial House salsa?

I think I know what happened. I looked at my last
jar of Territorial House, and to my surprise, it
said that it was made by Campbell Soup Company.
WTF? When did that happen? Today I went out
to Campbell Soup's web site, and what did I see?
They now own Pace. They must have bought both
Pace and Territorial House so that they could shut
down Territorial House to eliminate Pace's
competition.

WTF does Campbell Soup know about salsa?

"Naturally, the common people don't want war;
neither in Russia nor in England nor in America,
nor for that matter in Germany.
That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders
of the country who determine the policy and
it is always a simple matter to drag the people
along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist
dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist
dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can
always be brought to the bidding of the leaders.
That is easy. All you have to do is tell them
they are being attacked and denounce the
pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing
the country to danger. It works the same way
in any country."

Yo, Chuck, A couple years ago the main restaurant of the same name burned down in Corrales, NM. I don't know if they had sold the recipe and rights to the product or to whom. I believe the business is closed, hopefully, to return better than ever. I thought Territorial house as my favorite new Mexican salsa at that time. Being from Deming, just a stone's throw of 40 mi from Hatch, NM, I have a number of local salsa's that are just as good, though a bit more or less expensive.

Chuck - I loved it too. I moved from Denver 20 years ago and have had to go without. Tostitos makes a very comparable salsa. It's sold with the chips, not with the other salsas.

I used to work at the Territorial House (32 years ago)- not the original but still owned by the same family. They open a fast food version of the original restaurant. OMG they had the bast fajitas, hands down. I wish I had the recipe and how they prepared them.

Campbell’s owns the Pace brand picante sauces and salsas. They purchased Territorial House as a defensive move. Territorial House was taking a large part of the brand share in several markets.

Pace Territorial-House Picante Sauce was made by San Antonio based Pace Picante Sauce, Inc.. They did not sell the sauce here in Texas because they said Texans prefer sauce made with red peppers rather than the green peppers used in Territorial-House. I bought two jars at a store in New Mexico. I did not try it until I was back in San Antonio and when I found out how good it was I wished I had bought a case. I used to work on the copier at Pace and had several friends there who all lost their jobs when Campbell's bought them out. They always promised me a case of T-H picante sauce but I never got any. It's a damn shame Campbell's didn't market T-H sauce on the own.

HaHa! And then you get a response 16 years later. I loved Territorial House picante sauce. Pace used to make it here in San Antonio. The plant was located on the side of Interstate 35 where it crosses Salado Creek. For years I worked on their Xerox copier. A friend there gave me a jar, and then a case. He quit working there and years later they were bought out by Campbell's who basically wiped out the Pace brand. Before that happened I made a trip to Carlsbad New Mexico and found that they carried Territorial House in their stores. I bought a case. I should have bought several. In case you are wondering, Pace did not sell TH in San Antonio or Texas because the sauce did not do well in a market that prefers picante sauce made with red peppers instead of green.
