32-year-old faces animal cruelty charges
Police: Parrot bites man, man kills parrot

A Casper man faces animal cruelty charges in connection
with allegations that he threw a parrot against a wall
and then stepped on the flailing bird's head.
Police say Thomas Sage Hallock, 32, killed "Smokey Joe"
late Thursday after it bit him while perched on his finger.
Hallock's girlfriend said he called the African gray
parrot a "bad soldier" just before slinging it against
the wall, breaking its wings.
After stepping on the wounded bird's head, Hallock
turned toward the couple's cat and said, "You are a
bad soldier, too, and if you don't watch out, you will
be next," according to a police affidavit.
His girlfriend then left the Custer Avenue residence,
took the cat and called police.
Hallock pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor animal
cruelty Friday in Natrona County Circuit Court.
If convicted, he faces up to six months in jail
and a $750 fine.
Hallock, who was arrested and charged with felony
steroid possession in late October, had just gotten
out of jail when the alleged parrot incident occurred,
according to police.
Officers say they walked into the residence early Friday
and saw Hallock picking "large fish" off the floor and
putting them in a garbage can. In the same room, a
large aquarium was broken and the floor was flooded.
According to the affidavit, Hallock was "unsteady on
his feet" and slurring his words. When questioned,
he said he had not been drinking.
Judge Michael Huber set Hallock's bond at $1,500.
He remained in the Natrona County Detention Center on Friday.
