Hi all.

We've recently set up a workspace co-operative, OpenSpace Co-op, in
Hulme, Manchester.

I'm not sure who's aware of us and who isn't but I spotted this group
on GeekUp and joined as there are obvious parallels and possibilities
for collaboration or cross fertilisation.

We are a group of freelancers and small businesses who got together to
get affordable office space and get us out of our respective bedrooms.
In March, the six of us took over a unit in Work for Change (another
co-op), behind the Kim-by-the-Sea cafe on Old Birley Street and
promptly got hold of 12 desks. The plan being to attract further full
and part time tenants. Our disciplines vary from marketing,
architectural research and journalism, to voluntary sector management
consultancy and web development, however, a common thread running
through our founding members is a general feeling that we can run our
businesses while maintaining certain ecological and ethical
standards.

From what I understand, this co-working group will be centred on the
creative and technical industries, so we differ slightly in scope for
potential members.

One of the unexpected (to us) benefits of working together is the
fantastic potential for collaboration and information sharing, which
has already resulted in new projects and unexpected opportunities. In
this spirit we would love to talk more with this group and share the
information and experiences we have to date. If there is any interest,
we could perhaps arrange a collective visit to OpenSpace one evening
(there is a bar next door, literally) and learn more about our
respective co-working groups.

I can also see the potential for future networking events between co-
working groups across Manchester and beyond.

So do let us know if any of this is of interest, or where we might be
able to co-operate.

All the best.

Finn.

Apologies this took over a week to get moderated. I've been busy!
Sorry, sorry, sorry.

I'm certainly up for coming and seeing what you've done with the
space. Right now it looks like we're going to be running a co-working
day at Greenheys on the Science Park on the 7th August. Perhaps some
of us could pop over given you're only about 10 mins walk away.

I'll get in touch nearer the time.

Definitely. I'm amazed we didn't find you before.
