Jane McGonigal's keynote at SXSWi 08 was really inspiring to me.

I was thinking, maybe our vision should be to create happy members and
clients. I know that sounds a bit corny, but check out the
requirements Jane laid out to achieve happiness.

1) Satisfying work
2) Experience of being good at something
3) Time spent with people we like
4) The chance to be part of something bigger than ourselves

That's a pretty actionable list I think, and it's a lot more specific
than "create happy members and clients." But it's also just vague
enough that it could be interpreted for unique situations.

Also following Jane's lead. Perhaps our reputation system should
resemble a game?

Thoughts?

How is it like a game?

in response to your question about how is it like a game... did anyone get to sit in on the Startup Metrics panel on Monday morning?

the idea of it being like a game... it would be really cool to have "game" metrics of your leads/ prospects/ customers/ customer re-buys/ customer referrals.  this is not what exactly was talked about during that panel, but the panel, if you can find notes for it, could be a good idea to follow.

the main game like aspect to me- is the idea that you are keeping points monitoring progress towards goals... and seeing if the strategy being employed is working (and how to tweak it).... just make sure that it is not too boring... like the average marketing metrics meeting is.  :-)

great to see you guys at SXSW. I am now recovered...  long hours and good conversation were fun!

McGonigal was great. Took a very Matrix-y view on things, but the
reputation system would definitely be more engaging as a game. Maybe
we can send out tasks via SMS for bonus points. Who amd I kidding,
I've just always wanted to do messaging blasts like that. How do we
incorporate everyone's mobility into the game?

one more idea...
a book to look at is called The Rockafeller Habits by Verne Harnish.  You might even be able to download the sheets (word sheets/ excel) from http://www.gazelles.com

Don't let this limit the game you guys are envisioning...

and the book is written poorly... but it has some really cool ideas in it... (having five goals, and having the one of five...) each person / entrepreneur might want to have their own main five goals, with some type of tying function between the goal sets.

just an idea... let me know if you guys look down this path.

Designing a game (with scores) for deciding the quantity of compensation for the marketing/sales/relations folks is a good way to fix the "how do we quantify this" problem.

In case that's too vague, I'm referring to the conversation we had a few weeks back about compensation for bringing in new clients/projects.
