The BIG Hospital SBIRT Initiative is an exciting new effort in the U.S. to work together to identify and treat patients with substance use problems as a means of reducing hazardous substance use, risk of injury, and hospital readmissions and excess healthcare costs. View it in your browser.   SBIRT Update hospitalsbirt.webs.com Hello Audrey - See below for information related to expanding SBIRT within hospitals and the work of The BIG Hospital Initiative. Joint Commission Reliability Study At the request of the Joint Commission, we are very interested in finding hospitals that are implementing screening, brief interventions, and treatment for hospitalized patients.  The Joint Commission would like to recruit hospitals to participate in testing the substance use and tobacco SBIRT performance measures.  This would require no new effort or record keeping on the hospital’s part.  If your  hospital is willing to participate in the reliability study, the Joint Commission would send abstractors to review health records of patients screened and treated for substance use or tobacco dependence.  Even if you and your hospital are only a little interested, please contact Eric Goplerud (gopler...@norc.org), and he will get you in touch with the right Joint Commission people to explore further.  unsubscribe from this list | update subscription preferences hospitalsbirt.webs.com
