Anyone thinking of harvesting garlic early?  We always harvest our in
the 3rd week of July.  But everything seems on the early side and the
garlic is already large.  Maybe we should err on the side of early this
year?

Yes, our scapes came in a few weeks early and we often have bulbs getting rough by the time we get around to bringing the last ones in, especially when it rains during the garlic harvest, so we've gotten started although we will probably be harvesting through next week.

An old coworker who grew garlic once told me to leave a couple scapes on. They tell time. When they point straight up to 12 o'clock the bulb is done.

We usually miss a few so I use them for reference. Going to try and pull all of ours this week.
