Hi all,
Here I am, much behind my own time table, but finally ready to talk about a cooperative fertilizer order.  Below is the information on Kreher's products and pricing I sent awhile ago.  I believe it is all still accurate.

Kreher's prices:
5-4-3 $350/ton in 50# bags
4-3-10 $485/ton in 50# bags
8-2-2 $700/ton in 50# bags

Kreher's will also sell their products in a supersack for a little discount (could still ship with other pallets) and in bulk for a little more of a discount (you'd have to arrange shipping separately and then figure out how to deal with a large volume of stuff that can't get wet!).

They also sell, in bulk:
Composted poultry manure 5-3-2 $75/ton although Nancy Grove said that actual analysis was lower than that when she got it last year (again, you'd have to arrange shipping separately).  Duwayne said that 2 people could split a truckload, and they would be able to fairly accurately dump 1/2 in one place and 1/2 in another.  I don't remember how much fits in a load.

We're also getting a custom blend from North Country Organics.  Our regional dealer for that is Rod Porter at Cayuga Ag Enterprises (607 227-0836).  I haven't figured out whether there is a volume savings to be gained there.  I will let you know when I figure that out.

Fertrell products seem most cost effective ordered through Richardson's (T&P Sales) in Vernon Center.

Do you all think you can get back to me by next Monday about what you want ?

Any questions I can try to answer--315 882-2458

Thanks,
Asher

FYI,
Yes, Last year the supposedly 5-3-2 came as 4-2-1 (the receipt on
delivery had an analysis on it).
And two years ago we split a load. The way they split it in half is
simply to eye-ball the size of the pile. We did not agree that it was
split evenly and spent a fair amount of energy with a small dump truck
re arranging the piles between the two farms. I think it was an
additional $150 to split the load.
That being said, the product is really great and the plants grow
extremely well with it. Thus far, we love it.

Thanks for coordinating this Asher! Nancy, we were just wondering how easy the composted manure was to handle and spread. Did you run it through a manure spreader, or is the texture hard enough that it could run through a cone spreader without too much sticking, do you think?

The form they sent us says compost 4-3-2 is $50/ton and manure 4-3-2 $40/ton.

It is pretty dry and almost powder-like with chunks up to 2 inches in diameter.  Maybe fewer bigger chunks.  Most chunks less than 1 inch.  I have no experience with a cone spreader.  We used a manure spreader.  Our challenge was getting it on thin enough.  Perhaps with the cone spreader you would have more control.
