Alkaline (Ionized) Water - How does the ionizer work?
How does the ionizer work? Some of the terms are confusing: What is
the difference between “ionized water”, “alkaline water”, “reduced
water” and “oxidized water”?
The tap water first gets purified by going through the internal
activated carbon filter to remove germs, pollutants and toxins, such
as Chlorine and Fluoride. It is then separated by a process called
‘electrolysis’ into two components:
1. Alkaline Water. This is for drinking and has been shown to have
positive health benefits. This is also called “Reduced Water” and
“Alkaline Ionized Water”. These terms mean the same thing. Note that
some people call it Reduced Water because in chemistry terms it is
loaded with ‘reducing agents’ that are able to donate electrons and
eliminate dangerous free radicals in your body. We will refer to it as
Alkaline Water.
2. The other component is Acidic or Oxidized Water. This should not be
consumed but can be used for cleaning and disinfection. It is acidic
because it has a pH less than 7 and ‘Oxidized’ because it is loaded
with oxidizing agents that are hungry for electrons and can cause harm
to biological tissues—good for disinfection, not good for your body.
“Ionized Water” is a more general term that refers to both types of
water that come out of the ionizer, but some people use it
interchangeably with Alkaline Water.
