Congrats to you, Ron, and all of the team, I see CNSP-21 over Russia now (Monday, 2-2-15 noon) must have just overflown the Sochi aera (last Olympic Wintergames host city) on the shores of the Black Sea. What a success up to now, and what a huge accomplishment. Telemetry suggests a healthy device, so you might get it back to the US next week :-D

Good luck

It may appear over Japan area and then disappear over Pacific Ocean. And re-appear in California. Imagine that!

Nice capability of unit automatically changing APRS frequencies.

An interesting historical perspective of floater balloons. During WWI Japan launched several floater balloons with intent to start forest fires to cause US to spend resources on dealing with that instead of war efforts. Some made it, never started any fires but military asked the press to not publicized that (could have been used for successful propaganda by Japan).

Then in late 1940s there was efforts to have floater balloons carrying cameras to be launched from US, float across Soviet Union taking pictures, and then come back around the globe where it can be retrieved. Obviously high alt recon aircraft fulfilled this role. This was very hush-hush, one of the balloons landed near Roswell where it was mentioned in local papers. USAF swooped in, grabbed everything, and disappeared with no explanation.

In later years, (ok paraphrasing some here) Natl Enquirer picked up on this story (and others such as dummies parachuted from extreme altitudes that landed outside Holloman AFB) which contributed to the alien spaceship crash in Roswell and the bodies currently in freeze dried storage at Area 51.

Few years ago, USAF disclosed these balloons and what they were really trying to do. But that didn't convince many people. Roswell space aliens story is still a good plot for movies.

Other than that, I think many people are very inspired by this flight. Ron: I expect you are getting zillion emails from people asking how you have done it.

Trajectory from here is to between Seattle and Vancouver by Friday evening.  Should still be daylight when it gets in range of the APRS stations out there.  It'll run on the Canadian side of the border overnight, then be over the Great Lakes and southern New England on Saturday.

One of the WW2 Jap balloons landed with live bombs just a bit N of
EOSS's Windsor CO launch site. It's said that a girl and her Mom found
it and were injured when the bomb went off. Again, all ziplip to
avoid widespread panic.
