Dear friends,
Check out our chapter's upcoming events:

[1] Wildflower Festival
Saturday, April 23 10:00 AM to 3 PM
https://www.meetup.com/California-Native-Plant-Society-Santa-Clara-Valley-Chapter/events/285257441/

The Santa Clara Valley Chapter of CNPS is celebrating California Native Plant Week with a Wildflower Festival on Saturday, April 23. The event will be held  at the Dana Center at Hidden Villa in Los Altos Hills, from 10 AM to 3 PM. This event replaces our previously scheduled Wildflower Show at West Valley College on the same date.

We welcome the whole family with fun outdoor activities and an exhibit of wildflowers. Experts will be on site to describe different samples and answer questions. You can also stop by our wildflower seed table to take home some free seeds to sow this fall/winter.

In addition to the floral display, we will have a variety of activities, including a native plant seed exchange table, and wildflower-coloring activity for kids. We will be hosting several popular vendors, including Wild Jules Seed Balls and Emily Chin's Pressed Flower Art.  Our friends from the Grassroots Ecology Nursery will also have native plants for sale. New and used books, tshirts, posters, plants and more will be available from our Chapter as well.

We are excited to announce the launch of the CNPS SCV Wildflower Ambassador program, teaming up with Jennifer Dirking, the founder and inspiration for the Bring Back Bay Area Bees and Butterflies group on Nextdoor. Jennifer and CNPS will provide training and kits to people who are interested in emulating her wonderful efforts to increase butterfly and pollinator habitat in urban and suburban areas.

Please consider helping us put the Festival on. You can volunteer for a 2-hour shift and still have time to enjoy the festival. You don’t need to be an expert about native plants to volunteer – its great opportunity to learn while serving the community. Sign up here:

[2] Habitat Restoration at Lake Cunningham
Saturday, April 23, 8:00 AM
https://www.meetup.com/California-Native-Plant-Society-Santa-Clara-Valley-Chapter/events/qvfrpsydcgbfc/

VENUE: Native Garden Parking Lot

Join us to restore habitat (weeding and mulching) in the Native Garden at Lake Cunningham Park, San Jose.

We follow City of San Jose guidelines for volunteering during the pandemic: face covering and social distancing. Bring your own bucket and a weeding hoe (and knee pad, if you prefer that). Wear a face covering, hat, gloves, sturdy garden shoes. Bring plenty of fluids and hydrate often. We start with a 10-minute orientation, then walk to the site, so please be on time.

First-timers: Bring a signed waiver form available at https://lakecunninghamnativegarden.files.wordpress.com/2020/05/2020-volunteer-status-and-waiver-of-liability.pdf

First timers: please follow directions in this meetup to get to the native garden. It is a very large park (200 acres) with two entrances. You want to head to the Google map pin for "Lake Cunningham Native Garden".

Workdays are sometimes rescheduled or canceled. Always RSVP to confirm, and check the latest updates Friday night. If you can't make it, please change your RSVP so we know and wait-listers get a chance.

[3] Photo Group Meeting - change of date

On April 19th at 7pm PT, join naturalist and author Obi Kaufmann for a celebration of his latest field atlas, The Coasts of California. In this special livestream event, Obi will peel back the curtain on his process, then screen a sneak peek of a new film about his work directed by award-winning filmmaker Alice Gu (The Donut King).
