Sad weekend guys.  Sorry to be sending you all the below message, but we got news in the ED that Brenna passed away early this morning at her inpatient hospice.  I know she touched all of us in so many ways as our chief and friend and it is so shocking we lost her too soon.

We will definitely forward any news we get about memorial services and the celebration of life party she had requested.

Thinking of Brenna and all of our resident class,
Julie

—————————————————————-

Hi Friends -

Brenna passed away shortly after midnight this morning at her inpatient hospice.  She was surrounded by family and friends, and was without pain or suffering.

It was Brenna's wish to have a party to celebrate her life in lieu of a large memorial service.  We will pass on anything as we hear of it.

Brenna's youcaring fund set up by friends is still open for anyone who wishes to donate.  The funds raised have already been helpful in defraying travel costs for her family as well some of the end-of-life medical care costs.  The link is:

Brenna passed away the early morning of March 9th after a long, hard fight with cancer. She will be missed by all of us who had the joy of her life touching ours. We will keep this fundraiser open so can help to defray costs associated with her family taking off of work & traveling to Maryland to...

Hi friends,

I was able to visit Brenna this week at the hospice before she passed... She wasn't awake anymore but I spent time with her family, and they really appreciated the outpouring of support for Brenna that everyone has shown. While the last few months were hard, thankfully she was comfortable at the hospice and not suffering. We spent the time together sad, but also happy remembering all the things that made Brenna so special.

I hope everyone is well,
Allison

I'm so sorry to hear this but so happy she was comfortable.  She was a very special lady and touched many people's lives for the better.  Even in death she's bringing us together again (and I'll add that I'm Facebook friends with many of the MAs at FOBO who are also sharing posts about her, along with her go find me page).  May we all strive to live such a full life! RIP Brenna ❤️

Hi y'all,

So sad this world is now without Brenna in it.

I am thinking if there's interest could we think of a scholarship fund in Brenna's memory. I talked the idea over  withTheresa Czech and she had a great idea that maybe there could be an award given to a resident that embodies the same kindness, fight, and commitment to serving others, as Brenna did.

Thoughts?

RIP Brenna

I am so sorry to hear about Brenna- she was such a guiding force during our intern year. Glad to hear that she was at least comfortable during the last few weeks and days.

The scholarship idea is fantastic. I know there are others from other classes who would love to contribute as well.

Please keep us updated.

Sending good thoughts to everyone!

I think that is a wonderful idea. I think there’s people who worked with her in the ED as well who would be happy to contribute to keep her spirit and memory alive at the hospital amongst new groups of residents. I’m happy to reach out to them once we firm up plans.

Wow what sad news but what a great idea to fund a scholarship in her memory and continue her legacy.  She was such a warm, positive, capable presence for overwhelmed interns- I would love to keep that inspiration going for future residents!
Allison, so glad you got to visit and be with her family as well- thanks for sharing that.

Hugs,
Megan

Love the scholarship/award idea, a great opportunity to honor her life and family!  She touched so many lives at Children's and beyond, so I am sure the support would be overwhelming.

Like all of you, I’m heartbroken to hear of Brenna’s passing, but glad to hear that she was comfortable in the end, she’s been through more pain than anyone should ever have to bear.
I love the idea of a scholarship/award in her memory, it seems perfect for a person who has been an inspiration to and amazing supported of so many of us over the years.
Allison- glad you got to visit and thanks so much for sharing.

Hugs to all,
Anna

That woman really could light up a room. I still can’t believe how much she helped us all navigate the initial months of doctor-hood with such grace and support. A treasure in all our hearts.
The scholarship idea is amazing, please let me know how I can be helpful.

Miss and love you all.

So many lovely memories you have all mentioned, it is so touching.  I agree a scholarship or similar would be amazing! Binny if you discuss with Mary O today, another option I was thinking of would be a CNMC Memorial Grand Rounds on Brenna’s behalf where every year it is in her honor and her exceptional qualities can be remembered.  Unless there is someone who can help us ensure a scholarship is sustainable for years, I worry it could fade out sooner than we desire.  However, if things get started soon then there is a chance we may have a lot of donations that could support a scholarship.  I say this because Laura Sigman in ED just mentioned that she has been in touch with Brenna’s mom and husband in past 2 days and they don’t yet have charity or donation place established and many ED folks and PM Pediatrics are asking where they could send funds.   I am hardly a scholarship expert, but I think if you start with a big initial investment you can invest and let it build on itself so you can make it last forever!

So in short, let’s do something! Binny, let us know what you find out and we can get started-

Julie

I echo you all in that she was such an inspiration. She was so positive even during the hard times. This makes me so sad.

Thanks to Binny and Allison (and anyone else I am missing) for helping to sustain these awesome memories we all have of her.

Please let me know what I can do to help contribute. Perhaps we should work through the residency department administration for ideas for maintenance and implementation. Dr. O is a great idea as well. They may also be collaborating with some of her classmates as well for similar ideas.
