I took 4th place in our own Store Championship, which surprised me. My build was as follows:
Wes Janson (29) + Veteran Instinct (1) + Engine Upgrade (4)
Jake Farrell (24) + Chardaan Refit (-2) + A-Wing Test Pilot (0) + Opportunist (4) + Predator (3)
Jan Ors (25) + Ion Cannon Turret (5) + Nien Nunb (1) + Engine Upgrade (4)
There was an instance I decided to try Wedge instead of Wes and use Push the Limit and Outmaneuver on Jake. Once I playtested it, I found Wes and Opportunist worked better for what I wanted; a way to enable Jake more attack dice (along with Jan) and to also help protect the squad by stripping focus tokens and target locks if need be.
There were times I considered even taking out Jan for an E-Wing for more direct offense, but chose to not do so and stick with my favorite ship and one of my favorite pilots. I found one of the best choices was to drop Outmaneuver and replace it with Predator on Jake to make all of his extra attack dice more reliable and Autothrusters came in handy as well.
I was shocked I did so well against Leebo and Chewie for my first win, but I lost to them in my last match (go Frank and great flying!)
My last couple of matches I flew poorly against great players. My favorite match was against Chuck and his dual Aggressor list. It was the best flying I ever did, though I lost, but I enjoyed that match a lot. He even complimented me on how I flew the A-Wing, which is funny because I have not used them a lot.
It was a good day and proof that the HWK, and Jan in particular, can be an asset to a squad. I would not have made it to the top 4 if it were not true.
The only change to the build I may try is to change out the Ion Cannon Turret for an Autoblaster Turret for Jan more for defense than offense, she would use it while she is flying support and someone comes at her, she can at least have a chance at some uncanceled hits. And with the 3 points I save, give Wes R5-P9 for shield regeneration to make him more durable, much like what Autothrusters does for Jake.
I like to thank Comic Fusion for holding the event and for Sean for being a great TO and for everyone who came to participate and showing great sportsmanship, as well as flying casual and just having fun.
