THE ELIMINATE PROJECT
(written by Stefanie Chow, UCSD)

“What is MNT? In 36 countries around the world, maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) can quickly turn the joy of childbirth into tragedy. MNT kills one baby every nine minutes. Its effects are excruciating — tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch. There is little hope of survival. And tetanus kills mothers too.

Now that you know WHAT it is, you might wonder WHICH countries this condition affects. This link provides exact names of countries where UNICEF is working to eliminate MNT and where MNT has already been eliminated. Check it out!

NOT FOR SALE
(written by Don Ta, UCI)

You may already know that Not For Sale aims to end human slavery and trafficking, but did you know that they also help survivors of exploitation? Not For Sale has taken initiatives to train victims to work in competitive environments in order to help provide victims with a brighter future.

This link provides more information into how Not For Sale has partnered with Open Hand to provide work training for 100 individuals in India, many of whom are victims of exploitation or are severely at risk of trafficking.

PEDIATRIC TRAUMA PROGRAM
(written by Garvey Su, UCLA)

We don't simply fundraise for our District Fundraising Initiatives all the time. We also work to promote them to raise awareness! The Kiwanis CNH Foundation website offers plenty of safety flyers as a method for YOU to spread safety methods for the prevention of injury and trauma of children. Here are just a few examples:

Injuries are no Accidents: Always be aware of what injuries can be prevented; with a bit of focus and foresight, most "accidents", such as a car crash, can be avoided.
Hidden Hazards in the Home: 4.5 million children every year are injured at home. Simple steps can be taken to protect children from unassuming everyday household dangers!

Many more are available here:
http://cnhfoundation.org/Downloads.html. Choose PTP from the drop-down menu on the left hand side and open "PTP Safety Flyers". Do what you can to prevent pediatric trauma today!

"The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out; the brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. The brick walls are there to stop the people who don't want it badly enough." ~ Randy Pausch, "The Last Lecture"
