NOT FOR SALE
(written by Stefanie Chow, UCSD)

WHO LIKES CHOCOLATE? Have you ever wondered HOW your chocolate is produced? As humans who eat over 3,000,000 tons of chocolate per year, how can we know so little about the way such a sweet treat is so bitterly produced? Danish journalist Miki Mistrati travels goes undercover to West Africa and discovers the illegal trafficking of small children to cocoa fields. This is the dark side of chocolate. Watch the trailer here, and order a copy to share with your club members and the rest of your school campus. Host an educational movie night, or turn it into a fundraiser!

Speaking of fundraisers, you might consider hosting a chocolate campaign by “raising the bar.” Use this link to explore options for purchasing Divine Fair Trade Chocolate and help raise funds to end child labor and human trafficking

PEDIATRIC TRAUMA PROGRAM
(written by Tiffany Por, UCR)

What is PTP?

PTP stands for Pediatric Trauma Program and is a program that focuses on recognizing the need for education and training in areas of pediatric trauma and injury prevention.

Here are some quick facts about pediatric trauma (also known as unintentional injury):

·  Pediatric trauma is the leading cause of death in children 14 years and younger in the United States

·  More children die from unintentional injury than all childhood-related diseases combined

·  Fifteen children per day in the country die as a result from pediatric trauma

·  Pediatric trauma-related deaths can be related!

Read up on this quick flyer from Kiwanis, "Injuries Are No Accident," for further information on how one can prevent injury.

"The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out; the brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. The brick walls are there to stop the people who don't want it badly enough." ~ Randy Pausch, "The Last Lecture"
