We've been raising money for Not For Sale all year as individual clubs, but some want to pursue these efforts even further by posing the question: What can we do as individual PEOPLE to help raise awareness about the issue of modern-day slavery?
LEARN ABOUT THE ORIGINS OF NOT FOR SALE!
CNN conducts an interview of Not For Sale founder David Batstone regarding the use of technology in helping to fight modern-day slavery. Click to watch the video
here. You can also read about how Not For Sale got started (in the Bay Area!)
here.
READ ABOUT SLAVERY IN YOUR OWN BACKYARD!
One of the Not For Sale inventions that Batstone mentions is a website called
SlaveryMap, which documents cases of slavery throughout the United States, including exactly where it occurred, what steps were taken to combat the traffickers, and how the victims were helped. Don't miss out on this COOL interactive map
here. (I spent HOURS looking so many cases.)
ARE YOUR PRODUCTS MADE BY CHILD LABOR?
The other creation that Batstone introduces is an iPhone/Android app called
Free2Work, which "grades" certain companies on a scale of "A" to "F" based on how well they address the issue of child labor. What grades do you think companies like Apple, Adidas, and Lego earned? Download and find out
here. (I also spent several hours looking through everything. o.o)
Show these websites at your meeting, and/or provide interesting new facts each time you talk about Not For Sale. The FiFun Committee will be compiling more resources to help you advertise in these last few months. We are also doing a test-run of a DFI group, created for both board members and general members to learn more about the DFIs. These emails will also be sent to all of you (so you can opt to stop receiving these messages in the Google group), so please just encourage your members to join by clicking
here. (:
Thank you!
