An inspiring short speech by Jamie Lee Curtis made
at a Kiwanis Conference all the way in Switzerland. Circle K is raising money
for UNICEF: Project Eliminate, and together as part of the Kiwanis Family, we
can make a CHANGE and ELIMINATE Maternal Neonatal Tetanus by 2015!

NOT FOR SALE
(written by Gerard Gaw, UCLA)
Now that you know what "Not for Sale" is about and about the
Passion cause, maybe hearing about some up close documentaries about the cause
is what's best; after all, we can always read about it online but watching
videos, like this one: http://www.notforsalefilm.com/;
fills in those questions you have and really brings you, emotionally, into what
this cause is all about.
A few quick facts already tell you about how prevalent this problem is:
• Over eighty percent of them are women and children.
• At least two million of these victims are in the United States.
• Some victims are as young as six months old.
And to be honest, if that doesn't convince you to look up this cause, then
maybe just seeing some people who have survived this video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5u2IUF8JUw ; just to help you know more about the
cause which is often overlooked.

PEDIATRIC TRAUMA PROGRAM
(written by Stefanie Chow, UCSD)
Promote PTP with more than just
fundraising! District Fundraising Initiatives also include spreading awareness,
which is the most important factor needed to make these initiatives successful!
There are several projects you can adopt. Although there was a brochure with a
list sent out last week, the attached PDF has some of these ideas more in
detail. Here are a few that stood out:
- Like
crafts? à Distribute Kiwanis dolls to children’s hospitals or
provide teddy bears to first responders to comfort children involved in
trauma.
- Like working
with your Kiwanis? à Purchase bicycle helmets,
protective gear, care bears, electric outlet covers, etc. (available
through the Foundation at reduced rates). Distribute safety items through
Special Programs (i.e., community events, Law Enforcement agencies,
hospitals, day care centers and Pediatricians offices).
- Like acting?
à Create a short play on a child safety issue and perform
at an elementary or middle school.
There are so many outreach opportunities! It may
seem like a lot of work, but the effort and education in the end is WELL worth
it.
