Open source software components, while free to use, have a license attached to them. The license lists the requirements that the company using the open source software needs to meet. Certain licenses may impose restrictions on the intellectual property of the software products that use them. Also, failing to meet license requirements could make the use of the open source components illegal.
Investigating which open source components are included in a software product and how they are used is a standard part of every M&A, OEM and private equity due diligence process.
After going through an M&A due diligence, Dr. Ron Rymon, Azi Cohen and Rami Sass noticed that existing open source due diligence solutions were not practical in most cases. They decided to found WhiteSource Software, which offers an open source analysis and reporting solution for software due diligence.
Dr. Ron Rymon, a serial entrepreneur, will share his experience as an entrepreneur and investor going through two different open source due diligence processes as part of two M&A transactions.. Rami Sass, WhiteSource's CEO, will share his experience as an R&D executive going through an M&A transaction and how this experience shaped WhiteSource's product.
Looking forward to seeing you there!
Thanks,
Pat
