Chamber Music Weekend is fast approaching. There are just a few
snippets of information which you may find helpful as you make your
plans. In no particular order. . . .
1. There are lockers available in the music building which will hold
violins, violas and personal items. These are located on the third
floor. There is no check-out procedure, but you must provide your own
padlocks (small ones). Please do not leave things in the lockers
unsecured.
2. If any of you should be planning to drive an RV, there are camping
facilities available. The hookups are $12 a night. Washroom and
shower facilities are available. The phone number to call for those
arrangements is 423-236-2100 (Campus Safety).
3. For those of you flying with instruments, there is a very good
website which either lists or links the carry-on policies of various
airlines. Please be sure you have contacted the airlines previous to
arriving at the airport. Some airlines (Delta is notorious) are less
likely than others to allow non-standard shapes of carry-ons. The
website is: www.liviolinshop.com/advice.htm . Go to the bottom of the
page to find the information about flights.
4. Directions to Southern can be found at
www.southern.edu/?page=about_us/directions.php
5. Campus maps can be found at
www.southern.edu/library/media/campus_map.pdf
6. The music building (where CMW is located) is Mabel Wood Hall.
Driving in from 1-75, it will be one of the first buildings you
encounter, right after the large "Southern Adventist University"
sign. We'll have a welcome up on the marquee for you.
7. Registration is from 6:30-7:30 on Wednesday evening. If you won't
be able get there by then, please give us a call. Throughout the
weekend, I can be reached at 970-324-0837 (my cell), Dr. Ashton's
office is 423-236-2885, and the Ashton's residence is 423-396-2742.
8. Please bring your instruments to registration. After you have
registered, there is a group reading session for Divisions 3 and 4, and
divisions 1 and 2 will meet with their directors. Pianists will have
piano ensemble repertoire available. There will also be a free-lancing
session after the group reading session, for those who wish to stay
later.
9. Thursday and Friday mornings begin at 8:00 a.m.
10. Dress for church is not a specific uniform (i.e. Not all black, or
black and white). However, we recommend a dark color, and
below-the-knee skirts for the ladies. Sometimes the air-conditioning
at first service can be over-active, so division 3 ladies may want to
bring a light sweater or wear long sleeves, if you tend to be cold.
Gentlemen, a dress-shirt and tie is appropriate, jacket is optional.
11. Division 1 and 2, please bring a white shirt/top, and a dark skirt
or pants for the Sabbath evening Vespers.
12. If you are bringing music to share, please make sure your name is
on every part, and that you have 2 copies of the list of what you've
brought (one for you and one for the librarian). Bring it with you to
registration. Our librarian will add it to the lending library, and
you may pick it up again either Saturday night or Sunday.
13. For anyone who has dietary concerns, you may wish to know that
there are vegan options at every meal. All meals we serve are
lacto-ovo vegetarian. Coffee is hard to find on campus-if you drink
it, you may want to bring your own. The SAU campus is tobacco and
alcohol free.
We are very excited about meeting you all. CMW is a highlight of our
year, because we get to share such good music with such wonderful
people!
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
See you on the 14th!
Ellen Francisco
