AVES allows computers inside your home network to be named (e.g.
pc.david.avesnet.net) and reachable from any regular Internet hosts as
long as they know your host names. This is very useful for remote login,
running personal web servers, popping up X windows on home computers
when using outside servers, and many other possibilities.
I have deployed an experimental AVES system and I am looking for trial
users. I use it at home regularly myself, the NAT gateway daemon
software is extremely easy to use. AVES also has a lot of security
features to protect your computers as much as possible, but you should
always secure your computers just as you should secure your NAT gateway
even if you are not using AVES. The simple sign up procedures can be
found at the web site above. Right now, your NAT box must be a Linux PC
(I've tried only RedHat6.1 and above, but kernel 2.2 should work) to use
this service.
Email me if you have questions. Thanks.
