Hey guys..
I had my VI today and it was simply awesome..
Just 2 questions:
1. What do you plan to do at CMU?
2. Who will fund your education? (Which the VO only answered !!)
It lasted only some 10 seconds..
Best of Luck to everyone who are to appear for VI.. :)

Hi All;

As most of you know i got my visa approved on friday here at the chennai consulate.

Things did not happen exactly the way i had hoped for ... read and u will understand.

case study for change management

appointment time 8:15 am
after the preliminary security screening, i waited in a queue for the first set of counters( where we hand over our docs to be neatly arranged and put in a file)
after this i was told (by friends before) that i would be escorted to another building where the interview would take place. but this is what happened.

everything till the first counter thing was as per the script (counter 3 the lady took my docs and put them in a file took my fingerprint scans). then i approached the volunteers and he asked me to go to another adjacent counter(counter  1) in the same building.

Counter 1:
2ppl before me... the 1st person is an IT guy(HCL) blabbering about architecture and development. the 2nd person was a lady showing her wedding  photos i assumed that she was going to join her husband. all this while i never thought i was standing in the queue to meet the VO. i thought it was some preliminary screening to train us to be calm for the main interview. LOL.

my turn came.
no wishes cos i am still confused as to wht this line is for.
american guy: Pls put your right hand middle finger on the scanner,(i am not kidding) then he says thanks.
A.G: pls pass me you file.
A.G:so who is paying for your college fee (first hint that this is not some ordinary guy but still thought this was just to make us calm)
A.G: what does your father do..
looks over at all the docs  gre, toefl, i20,ds form splits the ds forms and hands me back the i20 and test scores.(2nd hint)
A.G: then he goes on to say things abt pittsburgh and the bookstores around pittsburgh( i am nodding just for the heck of it-remember that i am still confused)

all this time i was in the room where the other people were waiting for the visa staff to arrange the docs fo them. very noisy bunch. kids screaming.

with all this noise this is wht i hear finally...

A.G: df...fdf.d.fd.........passport...........fdf..dfdf............. week's time......than...... you.... next...
I should have assked him to repeat it but i wouldnt have hrd it either way.

i ws like wht the......

came out of the line no volunteers in sight I approach the door to go to the next building stopped on my way, shown another door.
i walk through that door which is the exit and out of the embassy.

then it dawned on me that the A.G was the VO and it ws my actual interrview. Got my passport just now with the visa stamped.

Prospective visa appointment holders: Go where the volunteers ask u to go. say good morning to everyone LOL

Regards
Haran

Here goes my Visa Interview Experience.....

Reached the Visa consulate at 8:30 AM via VFS battling strong
showers :)
After fingerprinting waited for my turn , though my number was in the
1st batch my number came in at 11:45 AM! The wait was getting onto me
had it not been for the verbathon of "Kamlaben Patel ane parivar bakda
kramank 16...." :)

I was called on with 3 other gentlemen ; i was last in the Queue. When
the 1st guy went in, The VO literally scrutinized each and every
document present in the Harmonium Folder. GRE , TOEFL , Transcripts,
Work Ex, Financial docs. In the meantime i kept all these documents
handy , in case :)
Ditto for the 2nd guy ! The wait in the Queue was almost 15 mins. 12 :
01 PM !

The VI Starts:
Me: Good Afternoon Sir, how are you doing today?
VO: Good Afternoon , I am doing great! Can you pass the pink token
please?
(Keeps on Typing....)
VO: So Carnegie Mellon!
Me : Yes Sir!
(Keeps on Typing....)
VO: You are going to a great school , Congratulations! So which all
schools did you apply to ?
Me: Told
(Keeps on Typing....)
VO: CMU is a costly school , how are you going to fund your education?
Me : Through my family savings. My parents have been saving for my
education.
VO: Do you have a scholarship?
Me: Yes sir , $3000/sem. (VO Looks at the i20 , 6000$/year)
VO: That is excellent , its difficult to get a waiver from school like
CMU!What do your parents do?
Me: Told
(Keeps on Typing....)
VO: Congratulations! I am issuing your Visa. Here is your i20 , you
would require it for your entry in the United States. Your passport
would reach you in 2 to 3 days. Have a great stay in US , and study
well !
(Yaaayyy!!)
Me: Thank you sir , you have a great day!
VO: You too!!Byee....

No documents asked @ all!
Be rest assured that with a great school like CMU , Visa Interview is
a breeze. But make sure you have all the documents in place , just in
case :)

All the best if you are still to do with your VI. Just be cool and
confident ,and things should just be great!!

Amen!
Sunil
