Reminder: Assignment 2 Deadline < 48 hrs and Debugging tips

Assignment 2 deadline is less than 48 hours away.

Here are some general debugging tips as you go through this

1. This document: https://web.cecs.pdx.edu/~harry/riscv/RISCV-Summary.pdf

   

   explains the implementation of each instruction line-by-line you can go through it. In particular the loads and jal are 

   these are the hardest to track down.

2. Common cause of bugs in our experience, 

   immediate and offset calculation (check your part 1 output). Do not attempt part 2 without finishing part 1. 

   jumps and PC calculation (print the PC after each instruction and then check if your program is following the path it is 

   expected to). 

   LH,MULH,LB etc (forgetting to sign extend during calculation ).  Read document 1 for the specific instruction you are facing.

As we approach please be mindful of the Head TAs time (we only have a single head TA for each assignment).  

- Remember that every other student is also asking the TA's help. As a result, our response times will be slower as we approach the deadline

-  You are more likely to get a response, if you include enough details (including images of output) where exactly the output deviates.

- Be understanding that some questions we may not even be able to get to as we get closer to within 24hrs of the deadline.

- Finally, search the groups; your question is already answered with high likely hood.
